ODIL HOUSSIN (published on March 07, 2009)



ODIL HOUSSIN Odil passed away peacefully at Tuxedo Nursing Home on February 27, 2009 at the age of 94. Odil is survived by his daughter in law, Barbara Houssin; his granddaughter Susan Brown and her husband James Brown and his only great-grandson, Forest Brown in Winnipeg. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Yvonne Houssin and numerous nieces and nephews. Odil was predeceased by his soul mate and wife of 70 years, Catherine in 2008, his son Roger in 1993 and his parents Stephanie and Achille. He was also predeceased by his sister Madeline and his brothers, Ernest, Andy, George and Mitchell. Odil was born on January 22, 1915 in Manitoba and lived in Winnipeg all his life. Odil was a member of the Belgian Club and enjoyed attending services at the St. Boniface Cathedral and at the Holy Cross Church. Odil worked for Dominion Malting and he loved to spend his free time gardening, collecting coins and working on his house. Odil and Catherine spent lots of time travelling and visiting their son, Roger and family who was in the Military, in his various postings in Canada. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family and all the lives he touched and they will be remembered as a wonderful couple who were completely devoted to each other. Odil will also be remembered for his strong and determined personality, he knew what he wanted, when he wanted and how he wanted it. The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home for the care and patience given to Odil during his stay. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make a donation to a charity of their choice as a token of remembrance. A private graveside service will be held in Green Acres Cemetery.
