JOHN ALFRED HAACK (published on March 07, 2009)

JOHN ALFRED HAACK December 17, 1926 - March 2, 2009 Joining his beloved wife Agnes, Jack passed away Monday evening, March 2, 2009. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Sheryl (Bob), Karen (Chris), David (Faith) and Don, and by his grandchildren, Christine (Ken), Michael (Des-Neiges), Kari-Ann (Gary), Sheryl and Charles (Simone) and by his great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Brooke, Hunter, Kylie, Cade and Colton. He will be missed and lovingly remembered, also, by his brothers, Ralph (Mary) and George; his sister Gretel and step-mother, Gladys of Nova Scotia; brothers-in-law, Dan Thagard (Claudine), Gordon and many nieces and nephews. Jack will always be remembered for his love of laughter, friends, and family. His greatest joy was family celebrations when all the grandkids and great-grandkids would have their chance to sit on grandpa's knee to be teased and brought to giggles and whoops of laughter. Jack was a veteran of the Second World War Provost Corp and joined CNR at the Transcona shops at the end of the war. He still felt the need to serve his community and joined the Transcona Police Department in 1958 as a constable. He rose through the ranks until he retired as Detective Sergeant in 1986 when he focused on his hobby farm in Hazelridge to raise chickens, turkeys, geese, and a menagerie of house pets. After Agnes passed on in 1992, Jack moved to Paradise Village in Ste. Anne where he continued to enjoy the country life he loved so much until he was convinced to move in with his daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Karen Lerm, in Lorette for health reasons. Special thanks to Karen and Chris for their devotion to Dad this past year. Thank you to Pastor Ed and our many friends for their help and support. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Jack's name to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 9Z9 or Kidney Foundation of Canada - Manitoba Branch, 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #9, 920 Nairn Avenue.
