DIEDRICH (DICK) WIENS (published on March 07, 2009)

DIEDRICH (DICK) WIENS Peacefully, Dick Wiens passed away on March 4, 2009 at the age of 92 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home where he has resided for the last three years with his loving wife, Thérèse. His only daughter, Sheila, also survives him. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret, in 1970 and was the last of a family of 14 children. Dick was born on October 31, 1916 in Barkfield, MB. He was raised on a farm and moved to Winnipeg to work first at Northern Shoe and then at Pacific Western Airlines till his retirement at age 65. The loves of his life were his family, fishing, camping at Falcon Lake and caring for his home and garden. Later in life you could see Dick and Thérèse walking everywhere from their neighbourhood to the mall. Their door was always open to visitors and those who knew Dick will remember the twinkle in his eye and welcoming smile. Although it was hard for Dick to leave his home, he made a new one at St. Norbert Personal Care Home where he continued to welcome company and loved to share stories of his long life. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, as they cared so well for Dick and Thérèse, making their transition as positive as possible. We know Dick was appreciative of these wonderful people and enjoyed talking with them. To My Father Although I cannot touch you, I only have to close my eyes and you are there. You have taught me so very much about courage, strength and love. And though at times I did not show it, I'm the luckiest to have had you as my father. Good-bye seems forever, Farewell is like the end. In my heart's memory, there you will always be. Not a day goes by that you won't be thought of in the warmest and most loving way. I love you, Today, Tomorrow, Forever. - Always, Sheila If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Green Acres Funeral Home.
