MARY LEE FRIESEN (published on March 07, 2009)

MARY LEE FRIESEN March 26, 1926 - February 8, 2009 Mary Lee Friesen (nee Braun) was born to Peter and Katharina Braun on March 26, 1926, in Altona. She was one of 12 children, consisting of seven sisters (Anna, Aganeta, Evelyn, Katarina, Susana, Sara, and Helen), and four brothers (Ed, Peter, Abram, and Jacob). Mary married Victor Friesen on August 14, 1949, and lived in Regina and Winnipeg. Mary was predeceased by her husband in September 2002, and will be lovingly remembered by her children Jerry (Anne), Jane (Rick), Wayne (Gayle), and James (Ruth); her sister Helen Goossen; grandchildren Dean (Alison), Kristin (Duane), Andrew (Bella), Marliese, Megan, Lauren, and Karen, great-grandchildren Owen and Zoe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Mary accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour on her 10th birthday, and lived a life that proved her salvation. Mary attended Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church from its inception in 1963 until shortly after her husband's death, at which time she transferred her membership to Westwood Community Church. Mary was interred at a private family burial on February 13. Pallbearers included her son-in law Rick Weitzel, her grandson Dean Weitzel, her nephews Greg Braun and David Friesen, her niece Sandy's husband Wayne Pauls, and her son Wayne Friesen. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2009 at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. A luncheon will follow the service. The family would like to thank the staff of the fifth floor of the Grace General Hospital for their outstanding, tender, loving, and wonderful care. We appreciate their compassion as palliative care workers. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
