MAIMIE GARDNER (published on March 23, 2009)

MAIMIE GARDNER November 6, 1919 - March 21, 2009 Maimie Gardner passed away peacefully with family members by her side at the Sharon Home Personal Care Centre on March 21, 2009. Born in Hoffer, SK, she was predeceased by her parents, Aron and Mary Gardner; her sisters, Ida and Esther and her brothers, Al, Jack and Hy. She is survived by her sister Kalla Daien and numerous nieces and nephews. Maimie left the family farm at age 15 moving to Montreal for four years. She then moved to Winnipeg where she was joined by the rest of her family several years later. In 1950 Maimie moved to Minneapolis, MN living there until 1980 when she retired and returned to Winnipeg. Maimie was actively involved in Pioneer Women, The Stay Young Group, and volunteered for numerous charities. She was devoted to her brothers and sisters and her nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Sharon Home as well as her companion Joan MacDonald. The service is to be held at Congregation Etz Chayim Synagogue, 123 Matheson Street on Monday, March 23 at 12:00 p.m. Service will be officiated by Rabbi Larry Lander and Cantor Tracy Kasner - Graves. Pallbearers are Dr. Alan Daien, Laurie Daien, Howard Gilmore, Myles Gilmore, Mark Gardner and Perry Moreau. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jerry Litman, Morris Gardner and Terry Parsonage. If desired, donations may be made in Maimie's memory to the Etz Chayim Synagogue, The Heart Stroke Foundation or the Sharon Home.
