Murray was born on December 9, 1931 in Winnipeg, MB to John and Lavina (nee Govenlock) Young. He grew up and attended school in Winnipeg, graduating from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He was an avid athlete, competing in such sports as baseball, soccer and hockey. He worked his way up through the company and with each promotion his family moved to various communities throughout western Canada. When Murray retired in the early 1990's, he chose to return to LeRoy, SK to make his home. He was a member of the LeRoy Housing Authority Board for a number of years. Murray's greatest pleasure was being outdoors at the lake and barbequing year round. With his family, he enjoyed camping at various locations and they also enjoyed time at their cabin in northern Saskatchewan. More recently, he enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Kipabiskau Lake. In October 2008, due to failing health, Murray became a resident of St. Mary's Villa, where he resided until the present. Murray will be lovingly remembered by his two children and six grandchildren: Tracy Young (Darcy McLean) of Saskatoon and her family Dylan Laybourne (Kelsey Thorarinson), Cassandra Laybourne and Olivia Laybourne, all of Saskatoon and Murray Giesbrecht of Regina; and Darin (Anita) Young of Port Coquitlam, BC and family Grace and Benjamin; mother of his children, Mona Young of Winnipeg; four sisters-in-law: Helen Granger Young and Royal Dueck, both of Winnipeg; Claire Young of Snow Lake, MB; and Renie Young of Flin Flon, MB; brother-in-law, Floyd Taylor of Portage La Prairie, MB and numerous nieces and nephews.
