JOHN BARRIS (published on April 04, 2009)

JOHN BARRIS It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of John Barris, age 80 of Anola, MB, who has gone to be with God on Monday, March 30, 2009. John, the son of Carl Emil Barris and Antonie Kirstine Barris (nee Starck) was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 20, 1928. In 1954, he immigrated to Canada and settled into Winnipeg, MB with his first wife Bodil (nee Broenum). Their son, Jens John Barris was born in St. Boniface Hospital in 1956. John remarried in 1965 to Mary Christobel (nee Martin) in Norwood United Church. They made their first home on Waller Avenue where their son David John was born in 1970 and later settled into 121 Eastgate in 1972, where their daughter Leslie Joy was born in 1973. John started and co-owned Micro Tool Machine Ltd. on Sanford Avenue, where he enjoyed many years in the tool and die business. He was an avid boater and member of the Manitoba Yacht Club where he spent most of his early days with family and friends on the open water. John also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and travelling. John's favourite place in his later years was his cottage at Falcon Lake. He loved fishing, no matter what time of year. John was always an avid tinkerer, fixing anything he could find in the local boutique and happy to help someone in need when they had a broken item. His grandson, Matthew Aidan Nikkel is sure to carry on the tradition as he was always helping his Grampa to fix things. John is survived by his son, Jens John (Suzanne) Barris and daughter Leslie Joy (Sean) Nikkel. He will be lovingly missed by his grandchildren Kaspur, Nanna, and Matthew. A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint), with a reception following. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
