VIOLET KATHLEEN BUCHAN (published on April 04, 2009)

VIOLET KATHLEEN BUCHAN (nee O'DOWDA) August 16th, 1919 - March 27th, 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Violet Kathleen Buchan. She slipped away peacefully March 27th surrounded by the love of her cherished family and friends. She was predeceased by Harry, her husband of 66 years and she really never recovered from her loss. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Linda Kathleen Simons and husband Richard; her son Denis; Violet's greatest joy - her grandchildren, Carly (Marc), Todd (Danna) and Sean, as well as Marilyn (Sean's mother); also her great-grandchildren, Violet, Isaac and baby Hunter. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends along with her loving caregiver Bella. Violet was born in Winnipeg and worked as a stenographer while her Harry served in the Second World War. In 1946 they moved to Vancouver to start a new life together. Violet created a wonderful home for her family and was known for her scrumptious Sunday night dinners of Roast Beef and Yorkshire Puddings. Many friends and family enjoyed her wonderful cooking over the years along with her gift of hospitality. She was both loving and kind and had a sweet word for all. To know her was to love her. Together with Harry, they loved to spend time at their cabin on Galiano BC, their cottage at Laclu Ontario, their yearly Hawaiian vacations and all their wonderful trips and cruises abroad. Together she and Harry established Buchan's Kerrisdale Stationery in 1957 and Violet remained behind the scenes as they built their business. Last year after the passing of her dear Harry she resided at the Arbutus Care Centre where she received wonderful loving care by all the Angels who work so diligently there. Life was sad without her dear one so she joined him with great joy and they are sipping a martini, watching the sunset in the Hawaiian sky over Maui. At Vie's request there will be no service but she would encourage you to donate to your favorite charity on her behalf and lift a glass of wine in her honor.
