WINONA (NONIE) MARIE PIZZEY (published on April 09, 2009)

WINONA (NONIE) MARIE PIZZEY Peacefully at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk on April 2, 2009 Nonie Pizzey passed away at the age of 86 years after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Nonie was born on April 14, 1922 at Fort Frances, ON to the late Andrew and Mary Shortreed. She was predeceased by her husband John, brother Ken Shortreed, sisters Emily Vandetti and Gail Madill. She will be fondly remembered by her son Rod and his wife June and her three precious granddaughters Dorothy, Emily and Karleen as well as many special nieces and nephews. Nonie grew up in Fort Frances, ON and after graduation she moved to Winnipeg where she took a stenography course and was a civilian employee with the RCAF. She then went to work for the T. Eaton Co. and was very proud to be known as an Eatonian for 20 years. In 1962 she married John Pizzey and started a new life on the farm at Binscarth, MB. She had many new challenges and faced them with the same enthusiasm she had for all things she tackled. She not only had to learn to drive a car but also grain trucks and tractors as well as all the new aspects of rural life. In 1984 after 22 years of farming and raising a family they retired and remained at the farmyard until 1998 when they moved to Winnipeg. After John's passing, Nonie moved first to Meadowood Manor and then to Tudor House in Selkirk in 2006 and resided there until her passing. Nonie was a very kind, loving and caring person who touched the lives of all who came in contact with her. She was well known for her love of antique furniture, fine china, baking buns and later spending time with her granddaughters. She was very outgoing and had a wide circle of friends that got bigger every time she moved. The family wishes to thank all those who helped Nonie through the progression of her illness. Special thanks to all the staff at Tudor House Personal Care Home for their amazing care and compassion these last three years. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Viewing will be one hour in advance of the service at 2:00 pm. CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715
