MICHAEL MARTIN HANNIMAN (published on April 11, 2009)

MICHAEL MARTIN HANNIMAN December 8, 1920 - April 5, 2009 Mike was called home on Palm Sunday. He will be forever missed by Geraldine and Michael and the light of his life his grandson, Mike Willcock, his dear sister Rose Hass who had a great visit with him in February, 2009, his in-laws Patrick, Rita, and Adele O'Sullivan, Teresa Egan, and Teresa King, and many nieces and nephews, especially the Egans whom he loved as his own. Born in Renfrew, Ontario to Elizabeth (Preen) and Martin on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Mike was baptized at Mount St. Patrick Church. He worked on the farm and in the bush with his brothers August, Ab, Lorne, Paul, and Jim. He first came west on a harvest excursion, then moved to Brandon in the 40s to be with his sister Ann Hass. He was an active member of St. Augustine's Church, St. Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus and St. John's Ambulance. He married Anne Louise O'Sullivan in 1954. He built their home on Percy St. and the cabin at Clear Lake. They entertained hundreds as their door was always open. He worked at the Prince Edward Hotel and in the underground at Camps Shilo and Hughes. In 1988 Anne and Mike moved to Winnipeg to be with their grandson, whom he named Mike. Anne died in 1994 and Mike moved in with Geraldine, Michael and Mike. We had many wonderful times until he fell in 2006 and broke his back in two places. Since then he received exceptional care at Tuxedo Villa. A hard worker all of his life, Mike loved the outdoors - the yard, garden, the cottage, and even shovelling snow!! To him heaven was a hoe and a long row of potatoes. A special thank you to the staff at Tuxedo Villa, our faithful friends Dr. Fr. Patrick Morand, Sr. Gerarda Pura, OSB, and all who visited Mike. Prayers were led by Rev. J. Burwell SJ. Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 8 at St. John Brebeuf with Msgr. W. Jamieson, Principal Celebrant, and Concelebrants Msgrs. Chartrand and McCloskey, Frs. Arsenault, Barclay, Fogarty SJ, Koryluk, Miranda SJ, and Morand, and Deacon Rev. Burwell SJ. Pallbearers Lewis, Joseph, Gerard, and David Egan, Tim Muys, and Al Simoens. Donations gratefully accepted to St. Paul's College, General Fund, 70 Dysart Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2M6.
