ALEX (OLEKSA) HUR (published on April 11, 2009)

ALEX (OLEKSA) HUR March 14, 1920 - April 6, 2009 On Monday, April 6, surrounded by family, Tato went peacefully into the light after a full and well-lived life. Tato was born in Surokhiv, povit Yaroslav, Ukraine, son of Stefan and Eva (Juba). Tato joined the First Division of the Ukrainian National Army to defend Ukrainian territory on the eastern front. After the war, Tato lived in Rochdale, England, where he met and married Mom. In 1952 they immigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg to raise their family. Tato worked at various jobs, finally retiring from his position as a Power Engineer with the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation department in December 1985, after 19 years of service. Left to cherish his memory are Elfriede, his wife of 60 years; son, Paul (Cathy); daughters, Alexandra (Emil Sohor), Romana (Bruno) and Christine; grandchildren, Alexis, Matthew, Amanda and Francesca. Prayers (Panakhyda) will be sung 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 13 at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14 also at the Church with Rt. Rev. Canon W. Klimchuk officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
