BRIAN FUREY (published on April 17, 2009)

BRIAN FUREY July 2, 1949 - April 16, 2009 Brian Furey passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2009 in Edmonton, AB after a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 59. Brian will be missed by his mother, Nancy Furey; sisters, Sheila Furey, Linda Morrison and Joyce Joyal (Mark); brother David and nephew Dan McDougall. Brian will also be missed by his friends, Mary, Bessie and Dorothy and many close friends in Edmonton and Winnipeg. Brian was predeceased by his father James Furey in 1989 and brother-in-law Glen Morrison in 2009. Brian was born and raised in St. Vital. In his early years attending Windsor School and Glenlawn Collegiate he made numerous friends, many of whom remained close to him until his passing. Brian moved to Edmonton in 1979, where he worked in the oil and gas pipeline business until he became unwell in the fall of 2008. Brian had a wry sense of humour and a great knack for telling a good joke and a good story. He was generous towards the people he loved and cared about and valued his relationships with his friends and family in Edmonton and in Winnipeg. Special thanks go to Brian's close friends John Booth and Denis Kehoe, who so kindly gave their time in helping Brian and in being with him in his last days. Warm thanks also go to the doctors, nurses and staff of University Hospital and the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton for their care during Brian's illness. Details about a service in Winnipeg, MB in Brian's memory will be announced at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made in Brian's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society 193 Sherbrook Steet, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or to a charity of one's choice.
