DAVID VAL WILLIAMS (published on April 18, 2009)

DAVID VAL WILLIAMS Suddenly on January 30, 2009, David Val Williams passed away from heart failure. Born June 24, 1944, he was predeceased by his loving wife and childhood friend, Georgette Williams, her father George McKeen, his mother Ann and father Percy, his aunt Betty and uncle Bill Kennington, who raised him, and reside with God. He is survived by his two sons, Joey (Sue), and Dean (Rachel), who loved and respected him very much. He is also survived by his sister Sandie (Grant), brothers, Ron (Marion), Bill (Jessie), Don (Barb), Bob (Maureen) Kennington, Barb (Bob) Thiesen, mother-in-law Margarette McKeen, in-laws, Vivian (Ralph), Norma (Klaus), Margaret (Frank), and brother-in-law Bill McKeen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends, Jack and Peggy Stock, Lorraine Lefebvre, the Joss's, and many others he cared for deeply. Dad was always the first to smile or to have a joke ready to lift your spirits. A kind and gentle soul who truly cared about those around him. Dave and Georgette were married in 1964 on April 25 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He entered the Royal Canadian Navy that same year and was posted to Victoria, with his new bride, to start a new family. 1964 saw them posted to Inuvik, NWT, where they adopted their son Joseph, and they were very proud parents. In 1968, with Joey in tow, they moved back to Victoria and Dave pursued his career in the Navy. They stayed the course until 1970 when they moved back home to Winnipeg. Two short years later, 1972 saw the birth of their second child, Dean. Staying fast to his career path we were all posted to Borden in 1976 where we lived for three years. Then posted again to Victoria in 1979. The family would move one last time to Shilo in 1981. Dave guided and provided for his family with love and laughter, and his death has affected all whose lives he touched. Dave worked with, and made friends with, a great deal of people over his life. A decent, caring man who served his country and whose passing was far too soon and sudden. God's speed Sailor. We miss you. Services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Barbara's Church, Shilo, Manitoba with Rev. Dave Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Unit 3 - 824 - 18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com. Arrangements are in care of Brockie Donovan Funeral Cremation Services, Brandon, (204) 727-0694.
