DOROTHY JAHNS  (published on May 01, 2009)

DOROTHY JAHNS (KIRBY) February 11, 1924 - April 29, 2009 At the age of 85 Dorothy passed away quietly at Goodwin Lodge in Teulon. She was preceded by her loving husband Charlie in 1999, oldest daughter Donna Chamberland in 2000 and young grandson Jonathan Watson in 2005. Dorothy (Dot) will be cherished forever by her three daughters Carrolyn Baber (Jim), Ann Sheidow (Neil) and Brenda Watson (Ken); seven grandchildren Diane Evans, Grant Magnusson (Tamala), Tracy Smith (Greg), Lee Baber (Laura), Ryan Sheidow (Cori), Kirby Sheidow and Kent Watson; and five great - grandchildren Tyler, Lindsey, Travis, Spencer and Charlize; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In 1941 Dot married Charlie Jahns and before Charlie joined the R.C.A.F. in 1942 they lived near the Jahns family farm at Balmoral. Upon Charlie's return from overseas they moved to Moore Park, Manitoba, where Dot's family lived, then in 1957 to Oak River, Manitoba where they both ran successful businesses for 25 years, Charlie selling White Farm Equipment and Dot styling hair in her own shop and helping Charlie in his business. In 1982 they both retired and moved to Carman. In Carman they became very involved in the Royal Canadian Legion and made many close friends. However, in 1986 they moved to Teulon to be close to their youngest daughter Brenda and her family. Dot and Charlie loved to travel and they were fortunate to go on many trips. They especially loved to go to Charlotte, NC to see Carrolyn and her family and to Edmonton, AB or Barrie, ON to see Ann and her family. Dot enjoyed her grandchildren and was always up for a game of cards or crokenole. Dot loved to have her grandchildren come and stay with her so she could spoil them for a week or two. The family wishes to thank the nurses at Betel Home in Selkirk and Goodwin Lodge in Teulon for their wonderful care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital or Teulon United Church. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of Dorothy's life on Saturday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon. Rev. Patricia Baker officiating. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
