KEN HARES (published on May 01, 2009)

KEN HARES It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of our Ken, in the early hours of Wednesday April 29, 2009 at the age of 47. He passed away with his wife Shirley by his side. He also leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter Samantha; son Zachary and his brother Richard (Lisa); niece Emily and nephew Mitchell. Auntie Marci and Uncle Bob were, as always, there for Ken in the end. He will also be sadly missed by Uncle Gary (Bev), Uncle Jack, and his many cousins. Ken was predeceased by his parents Stella and Ron Hares. Ken grew up in the West Kildonan area. During his school years he played many sports but the one he most bragged about was his rugby years, he tried unsuccessfully to convince his son Zachary to switch to this sport. He worked for CP Rail for 28 years, but recently in the last three years he worked endless hours as the union Prairie Region Vice President for CAW 101. He greatly enjoyed the challenges this job required to get his members' situations solved. He was always a guy that loved to solve everyone's problem. Just mentioning that you were thinking about buying a new car, he would be doing research immediately, finding the best and smartest way for that to be done. He always knew the best and least expensive way to do anything. Don't mention to him that you forgot to use a coupon. All kidding aside, his greatest love was his family especially his children Samantha and Zachary. Even in his last few days/hours he had a list for Richard and Shirley to do for his family. Shirley is now left to watch football with his friend Al, play cribbage with Greg and calm Vince down when his job gets to be too much. A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue at 3:00 p.m. Viewing will be held prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, in Ken's memory. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
