KATHLEEN WHITLEY (nee PURDY) Kathleen May Whitley passed away April 26, 2009 at the age of 86, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Donald Mark Whitley of Victoria in 2000, her father and mother, John and Mary Purdy, brothers: John and Samuel, and sisters: Elizabeth and Hannah. She is survived by son, Mark and grandchildren: Braden, Anne and Paul, great-grandchildren: Kira and Kodis, daughter, Catherine (Colin) King and grandchildren, Kate and Kyle. Kathleen was raised in Winnipeg and became very involved with the arts, especially ballet and music. After the war, she travelled abroad, extending a short term holiday to England into a stay of over two years. During that time, Kathleen met many extended family members and established new friends that she remained in contact with throughout her life. Kathleen returned to Winnipeg and then moved to Victoria in 1956 where she met and married Donald in 1958 and they raised a family together. Throughout her lifetime Kathleen had a passion for music, theatre and dance. She was devoted to her church and completely dedicated to her family. Throughout her busy life, Kathleen was very involved with a variety of charitable organizations that benefited from her watchful eye and caring nature. A service will be held at St. George the Martyr Church, 3909 St. George's Lane, Cadboro Bay, Victoria, BC on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. The family greatly appreciates the care given by Dr. Ortynsky. With sincere thanks to the compassionate nurses and care givers at Capilano Care in West Vancouver. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
