SHIRLEY WOLODARSKY It is with deep sadness that the family of Shirley Wolodarsky announces her passing on April 18, 2009 at Seven Oaks General Hospital. She is survived by her children, Gary (Terri-Mae) Wolodarsky and Elaine (Neil) Swirsky, grandchildren Joel Wolodarsky (Jennifer Teskey), Matthew (Jackie) Swirsky, Amy Swirsky (Michael Schacter), David Wolodarsky, and Jill (John) Cassano, great-grandson Jacob Swirsky, brothers and sisters-in-law Anna Gordon, Doris Lacovetsky, Rose and Larry Usiskin, Shirley and Dave Chochinov, Vity Bagel, Bill Wolodarsky and Ann-Maree Edwards, and Faigie and Martin Levitt. Her passing is also mourned by numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Jack, her parents, Hymie and Helen Goldenberg, her brother Harry Gordon, sister-in-law Marilyn Levitt, and brothers-in-law Fred Lacovetsky and Sidney Bagel. Shirley was born March 24, 1924 in Winnipeg. She grew up at 65 Ellen St. across the street from the restaurant and grocery store operated by her parents. She attended Argyle, Hugh John MacDonald, and Daniel McIntyre Schools. She married Jack Wolodarsky on October 7, 1945. In 1950 they moved into their home at 415 Seven Oaks Ave. where they raised their children within a wonderful community of family and special neighbours. Family and friends were always welcome in their home and at the cottage at Winnipeg Beach. Shirley had many interests. She loved travelling, dancing, reading, theatre, the symphony, art, fashion, nature, and knitting. Shirley was kind-hearted, patient, affectionate, Intelligent, loyal, unselfish, and had a youthful spirit. She was a great listener and always knew the right thing to say. Her smile lit up a room and family and friends loved her big hugs. She touched many people in her life. She cared deeply for those less fortunate than her and, over the years, had a number of volunteer experiences. She devoted herself to her family. She truly understood what was important and meaningful in life. Shirley was a wonderful role model and had a huge influence on her children and grandchildren. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. T. Fatoye and to all of the physicians and staff involved in her care at Seven Oaks General Hospital and Kildonan Medical Centre. Funeral services were held April 20, 2009 at Congregation Etz Chayim. Pallbearers were Joel Wolodarsky, Matthew Swirsky, David Wolodarsky, Michael Schacter, John Cassano, and Ivan Master. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
