MARLENE (MALKA) GRAVITZ (published on May 02, 2009)

MARLENE (MALKA) GRAVITZ (SLUTCHUK) September 17, 1937 - April 19, 2009 Marlene was born in Winnipeg and moved to Sacramento in 1960. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Al, and by her children, son, Ben (Karen), her daughter Sarah (Joel) and grandchildren Aaron, Nathan, Jacob and Noah. She also leaves to mourn, siblings Norma Fitch, Lorna Cramer (David), George Slutchuk (Barbara), Marvin Slutchuk (Faith), Rhoda Nelson (Ben), sister-in-law Donna Slutchuk and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Tamara Slutchuk, sister Miriam Brandon and brother Ernest Slutchuk. Marlene grew up in Winnipeg and went to St. John's High School. She excelled in Yiddish through her schooling at Shalom Aleichem School. She obtained her Nursing degree (RN) in Winnipeg. Marlene had a great thirst for knowledge and was a true scholar, continuing to educate herself. She obtained a BA in Psychology, an MA in English and graduated Law School (J.D.). Marlene was an active member of her synagogue, the Mosaic Law Congregation in Sacramento. Funeral services were held April 23, 2009 at Home of Peace Cemetery, Sacramento, California. Officiating was Rabbi Reuven Taff, Hazzan Avraham Alpert, Mosaic Law Congregation. Interment took place at Home of Peace Cemetery, Sacramento, California. Pallbearers were Rick Wilkie, Dan Hardmeyer, Paul Davis, Jan Sherri, Ben Gravitz, Sarah Apollo, and George Slutchuk.
