MICHAEL ROBERT KOWAL (published on May 02, 2009)

MICHAEL ROBERT KOWAL September 15, 1970 - April 28, 2009 After a long and hard fought battle with cancer, Michael passed away peacefully at Selkirk General Hospital at the age of 38. Michael is survived by his parents, Barry and Lynne, brother Barry of Calgary, and brother Robin (Tammy) and nieces Abigail, Taylor, and Makenna all of Winnipeg, his grandmother Jean Kowal of Dauphin. He also leaves to mourn many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather Mike Kowal of Dauphin, grandparents Bob and Muriel Vincent and his uncle Richard Vincent all of Winnipeg. Michael grew up in Dauphin where he attended school graduating in 1988. He then moved to Winnipeg where he graduated from the U of M in 1993 with a B.A. Degree. Mike worked at Perimeter Aviation until his illness prevented him from doing so. Mike loved to golf, although again his illness prevented him from doing much in the last couple of years. He travelled to Florida in March 2008 to watch the Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Tournament. He also looked forward every spring to Formula One racing and was able to attend two F1 races in Montreal. Another of Mike's favourite's was the start of NFL football every fall. Music was also a huge part of his life, especially his guitars and his band Sea Monkeys . Michael was a kind and gentle soul and we will miss him terribly. The family wishes to thank Dr. R. Nason, Dr. A. Maksymiuk and staff of Cancer Care and Dr. R. Zoppa and staff at Selkirk General Hospital. Also a special thank you to Arlene of Palliative Care, and Sandy from Selkirk Home Care. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday May 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk MB. Donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba if so desired. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
