MICHAEL GREGORY MARTIN May 26, 1953 - May 1, 2009 Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Mike passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009 at St. Boniface Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his wife Jill, daughter Janine, mother Patty, sister Sheilah (Ian), uncle Greg, mother-in-law Joan, sister-in-law Shelley (Mark), sister-in-law Karen, special nieces and nephews: Sarah, Roxy, Mike, Dylan, Kevin, Jennifer, Michael, Lori, Tracy, Keri, and their families, special aunt Jean (David) and uncle Morris (Shirley), along with numerous friends, neighbours and co-workers. He was predeceased by his father Don, father-in-law Bill, brothers-in-law Paul and Barrie. Michael was born on May 26, 1953 in Montreal, Quebec. The family travelled to many different locations before settling in Smiths Falls, Ontario. Mike graduated from the University of Western Ontario and began a career in business. Later on he found his niche in sales, enjoying many successful years. In 2005 Mike left sales to embark on a new career in long-haul trucking. Mike was employed by New Hope Transport and felt he had become a paid tourist . Mike enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests from skiing to sailing, golf and curling. His most recent passion was quadding with his buddies at the lake. Mike enjoyed some of the finer things in life such as a late night game of chess with his mom, a glass of fine Scotch, and the beauty of each sunset. Mike and his family would like to acknowledge some very special medical staff who helped him through his journey: Dr. L. Targownik (Health Sciences Centre), Dr. C. Ogaranko (Heather), Dr. P. Daeninck (Tracy), Dr. Karen Humphries, and the wonderful staff at St. Boniface General Hospital Cancer Care, the exceptional staff on 5E (St. Boniface General Hospital) and a special thank you to Kim (5E, St. Boniface General Hospital). A celebration of Mike's life will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be sent to: MS Society of Canada, Suite 100, 1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 1L8, or The Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J2. Private family interment to follow reception. Mike was a true gentleman and a truly gentle man.
