JOYCE LYDIA GESSNER (published on May 09, 2009)

JOYCE LYDIA GESSNER (RIDLEY) On Tuesday, May 5, 2009 our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Carl Gessner in 1990 and her parents, Albert and Rhoda Ridley. She is survived by her three daughters, Debbie (Ken) Buckingham, Shelley (John) King and Cindy (Don) Boss; grandchildren Alexa Buckingham and fiancé Geoff Richardson, Jason King and Stacey and Taylor Boss; her siblings, Albert (Rilla) Ridley, Ken Ridley and Rhoda Ridley; brother-in-law Arthur Gessner; sisters-in-law Caroline Larter and Audrey Gessner; numerous nieces and nephews and scores of friends. Joyce was born on August 8, 1929 to Albert and Rhoda Ridley of Middlechurch, Manitoba. She married Carl Gessner on February 10, 1951. They resided in St. Andrews for their entire married life and after Charlie's death in 1990, she remained in St. Andrews until 2003 when she moved to North Kildonan. Joyce was active in the St. Andrews community as a Brownie leader, member of the WI and ACW and a loyal parishioner of St. Andrews on the Red Anglican Church. After moving to Winnipeg she maintained strong ties to St. Andrews as well as immersing herself in her new community. Mom had many talents but her greatest attribute was her ability to put people at ease and to make them feel welcome and special. As a result, her friendships knew no age barriers and were plentiful, wide flung, deep and enduring. Her friendship will be missed by many. We are grateful for the kindness and care of St. Boniface Hospital and in particular Drs. Anthony Hurd, Karen Humphreys, Jay and Senior Medical Student Joe, ER nurse Lorraine Dolynski, the nursing staff of 5B and Kendra Pauls for providing Mom with special dietary treats during her stay. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews on the Red Anglican Church, St. Andrews, Manitoba with Rev. S. Sharman officiating. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. She died in beauty, - like the snow On flowers dissolved away; She died in beauty, - like a star Lost on the brow of day. She lives in glory, - like night's gems Set round the silver moon; She lives in glory, - like the sun - Charles Doyne Sillery HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
