WILFRED THOMAS HODGINS (published on May 09, 2009)

WILFRED THOMAS HODGINS It is with heartfelt sadness we announce that Wilfred Thomas Hodgins went to be with his Lord on May 2, 2009 at the age of 96. Wilf was born December 7, 1912 to William Henry and Adelaide (Krok) on a farm near Cook's Creek. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Adelaide, his loving wife Louise, and his siblings, Winnifred Olive, Reginold Sydney, Grace and Cora. His memory will be cherished by his son Cameron, daughter-in-law Debbie, grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, Adam, Kaitlin, and many relatives and friends. During his early years, Wilf farmed with his father. At the age of 25 years, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour, and he has remained faithful and true to the end. He married Louise Harriet (Longwell) in 1950 and they farmed together with his parents until their death in 1957. For many years Wilf and Louise gave tender loving care to 26 foster children and adopted one boy, Cameron at the age of 10 years. After the sale of the farm, they moved to Creston, B.C., where Louise became ill and went to be with her Lord. Wilf remained in Creston until 2003 and moved back to Manitoba, settling at the Rotary Villa apartment complex. He could be seen walking to church; once unable to walk, he came by scooter. Wilf faithfully worshipped at the Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church. He made friends easily and could remember names of people that he met. He would also go to the Safeway and Super Store for groceries by scooter. By scooter, he would visit friends at the Victoria Hospital. He was a true and faithful friend. He will be missed by family, relatives and many friends. A celebration of Wilf's life will be held Tuesday May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, 1771 Pembina Highway. Visitation at the church prior to the service. Interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. In his memory, donations may be made to the church building fund.
