PAULINE HAWRYLUK (published on May 09, 2009)

PAULINE HAWRYLUK January 15, 1919 - April 25, 2009 Pauline passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Pauline spent her early years on the farm in Foley, MB near Winnipeg Beach. She worked in Winnipeg and then moved to Vancouver. She loved living in Vancouver - the spring flowers and the plum tree blossoms were her favorites, along with places like Granville Market. She was proud to have worked for many years with Canada Safeway. She was also very proud of reaching the age of 90 this past winter. She continued to go out until her very last days, travelling the city by public transit. Pauline was hard-working, clear-thinking, and independent with a wry sense of humour. She was also an excellent cook. She will be dearly missed by her family and her neighbourhood friends. Pauline was predeceased by brother Peter Hawryluk; brothers Charles, Michael (Mac), Ivan, Sam, and Fred Havelock; and sisters Mary Kubb, Nellie James, Helen Srutwa, and Alda McMillan. She is survived by sister Rose Jonuk, sisters-in-law Jean and Hazel Havelock and brother-in-law Richard (Dick) McMillan, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews in the United States and Canada. The family would like to express appreciation to Pauline's friends in her apartment block and the staff at Burnaby Hospital for their care and concern for her. Cremation took place on April 30, 2009 arrangements by Basic Cremations in Vancouver. At Pauline's request there was no service. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
