BOYLE FRANCIS SCHAEFFER (published on May 09, 2009)



BOYLE FRANCIS SCHAEFFER 1928 - 2009 Boyle was born November 6, 1928 in Gananoqueway, Ontario, to Joseph Schaeffer and Mary Kathleen Boyle, and sadly passed away Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. Boyle lived his early life in Regina, Saskatchewan, where he attended Holy Rosary Elementary School and Campion College High School. He studied Architecture at the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1953, followed by one year of post-graduate work in City Planning. Obtaining a Master's of Architecture in 1954. After working four years in Palo Alto, California for Planning and Architectural firms, Boyle returned to Winnipeg where he started his own Architectural practice in 1960, planning to retire in 2010. Boyle was an all-around athlete who excelled in hockey in his younger years. He played basketball for the U of M for three years, as well as a number of city teams. Boyle was an avid tennis player, ranking as high as number three in Manitoba, where he also won numerous singles and doubles titles in the senior category. He also spent many summers on the golf course. Boyle was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus (Chapter 5808), as well as a longtime member of the Winnipeg Kiwanis Club. He was founding shareholder in the Unicity (Taylor Tennis Club), and a member of the Manitoba Tennis and Tennis Patron's Association. Boyle loved Thoroughbred Horse Racing and owned several horses through out his life, including the 1987 Winnipeg Futurity Winner and Champion two year-old Colt Black No Sugar . Boyle is survived by his companion of 30 years, Shirley, his son Paul, his daughter Elizabeth, his brother Jack, his sister-in-law Shirley, his sister-in-law Maureen, and his beloved granddaughter Elise. He will be deeply missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held in Boyle's honor on May 23, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Finish Line Banquet Room at Assiniboia Downs (Lower Level). A private family interment will be held at a later date.
