HENRY WILLMS (published on May 19, 2009)

HENRY WILLMS Henry Willms passed away peacefully on May 14, 2009 at the Grace Hospital. Dad (Pops) was born on September 12, 1925 in Rosthern, SK. He moved to Winnipeg with his family in 1929. After marrying his beloved wife Helen in 1957, they moved to Kildonan Drive where he resided for over 50 years. He was predeceased by Helen in 1981 and is survived by his six sons, Henry (Sharen), Peter, Bill (Ruth), Eric, Paul (Karen) and Andy (Marissa) and eight grandchildren, Eric, Sean, Nicolas, Vanessa, Stephen, Kate, Emma and Ellen. He is also survived by his sisters, Irene, Louise and Helen and brother Rudy. Pops graduated from the University of Manitoba, obtaining his degree in Civil Engineering in 1948. He practiced engineering for over 50 years as a general contractor, building many notable buildings, bridges and dams throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba. Some of his most notable achievements were his involvement with Concordia Hospital, serving on the Board of Directors for 40 years, 20 years as Chairman. He also served on the boards of Bethania Personal Care Home and Autumn House. Pops enjoyed a lifetime of hunting with his sons and grandchildren right up to his 82nd year. Most of all he loved spending time at his cottage, Holiday House, in Winnipeg Beach. He spent most weekends there year round with his family and friends, with a cigar in one hand and a drink in the other, and his dog at his feet. Family and friends always came first to Pops. He will be sadly missed for his strong opinions, persistence, and especially his lively debates. A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday May 21, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Concordia Hospital Foundation. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 HENDERSON HWY. WINNIPEG, MB R2G 1P4 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.mem.com
