MARJORIE LOIS COUBROUGH (published on May 19, 2009)

MARJORIE LOIS COUBROUGH (nee HEWINS) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marj Coubrough on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the age of 76. She passed away in the Health Sciences Centre after a brief illness, with her beloved husband Don, and family by her side. Marj was born November 2, 1932 in Portage la Prairie; the youngest daughter of Edward and Annie Hewins. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Don, of 53 years; her pride and joy, sons, Kelly (Linda) of Winnipeg and Kevin (Bev) of Portage La Prairie; grandchildren, Jillian and Scott of Winnipeg, and Derek and Trent of Portage La Prairie; brother Ken (Fay) Hewins of Brandon; sister Ada Henwood of Ottawa; brothers-in-law, Harold (Andy) Anderson, Bob Knight and Walter (Doreen) Coubrough; sisters-in-law, Muriel Hewins, Margaret Kitson, Audrey (Ron) Tarr and Dianne Watson, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Jean Anderson, Anne Knight and Lil Durnin; brother Ted Hewins and brothers-in-law Keith Henwood, Ralph Durnin, Bud Kitson and John Watson. After graduating from high school at P.C.I., Marj gained employment as a telephone operator with MTS. In 1956, she married Don and moved to the family farm in rural Portage. Her easygoing nature made it easy for her to accept rural life. Marj was a loving example to all of her family. She had a knack for remembering her family's special days and was always there to support them in any of their endeavours. She was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, St. Mary's Alter Guild, St. Mary's Thrift Shop and a Life Member of Ruth Rebekah Lodge #3. Marj took pleasure in daily walks, afternoon soaps, a good Danielle Steele novel, bowling with the Ladies afternoon league and was a long time Portage Terrier fan. In 1991, she and Don moved to Portage when their son Kevin took over the family farm. After retiring to Portage, Marj remained active in the community and continued volunteering with her lodge and church. In 2006, Don and Marj were delighted to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses and all the caregivers for the care and compassion they showed Marj. A service to celebrate Marj's life will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church, led by the Venerable Norman Collier. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Marj's memory to St. Mary's La Prairie Anglican Church Memorial Fund, 36 2nd Street SW, Portage La Prairie, MB R1N 2A1. A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel 857-4021
