JUDITH E. STONEHOUSE (published on May 22, 2009)

JUDITH E. STONEHOUSE On May 17, 2009 Judy Stonehouse passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, at the age of 61. Judy was born and raised in Portage la Prairie. Growing up, she was active in Brownies, Guides and Junior Rifle Club, first as a participant and later as a leader and an instructor. Moving to Winnipeg very early in her working life, Judy joined Great West Life where she stayed for twenty years. She later worked for Manitoba Theatre Centre, Rice Financial and Health Canada. Judy loved travelling, the theatre, the symphony, arts and crafts, and her two cats. She was a long-time volunteer at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival and had been an avid Winnipeg Jets fan. Over the past fifteen years, Judy focused much of her free time on her life-long love of drawing and painting. Family and friends were the recipients of much of her art, which she always made with the recipient in mind. She was particularly pleased to be able to contribute her artistic talent to help provide painted boxes for the remains of deceased newborns. Judy was predeceased by her mother Myrtle, in 1993. She is survived by her father, Bruce Stonehouse of Portage la Prairie, and close friends, Mardine Garnham, Mary-Ann Gibson and the Nystroms, Sally, Lawrence, Marla (Tyler) and Scott (Elaine). Judy's father and friends gratefully thank the staff and doctors at Grace Hospital for their concern for and excellent care of Judy during her stay. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to, may make a donation in Judy's name to the Grace Hospital Foundation or to Cancer Care Manitoba or to a charity of one's choosing. A funeral service will be held in Winnipeg on Friday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue. A Second service and the interment will be held in Portage la Prairie on Monday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Omega Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family c/o Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 1T8 or friends may leave a message of sympathy on our web site www.omegafuneralhome.com Dedicated to those we serve .
