ELSIE HALLSON (published on May 22, 2009)

ELSIE HALLSON (nee RICHTER) June 10, 1932 - May 20, 2009 Peacefully on May 20, 2009 at the Lakeshore General Hospital with family by her side, Elsie Hallson, aged 76 years of Ashern passed away. Elsie was born on June 10, 1932 in Eriksdale, MB. She met and later married Steve Hallson on May 14, 1955 and together they farmed for many years in the Oakview district. Elsie also worked for Nelson River Construction between 1974 and 1979. In 2002 they moved into Ashern. Mom loved curling at the Hayland Curling Rink. In later years, you could find her cuddled in her chair with her snacks watching baseball and curling on television. When on the farm, her yard was always full of flowers and she had a passion for gardening. This continued when Mom and Dad moved into town. When Christmas time came she took great pride in her light and decoration displays. As well, Elsie would spend countless hours getting her yard prepared for Halloween. Mom loved to knit, crochet and play bingo, in the winter months she enjoyed doing puzzles. She is survived by her two children, Allan (Lydia), Brenda (Erwin) Gibson; grandchildren, Chandell (Ian), Dillon, Candice, Ryan (Lisa), Clayton (Carrie); great-grandchildren, Breena, Sierra, Jaydeen, Mackenzie, Abby; her sister Lorraine (Martin) Chambers, and a brother Lawrence (Fran); along with other family members and many good friends; her three special friends - her neighbor Eleanor Pelletier and her girls Keeley and Halo. She was predeceased by her mom and dad Caroline Lena and Bill. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to follow in the Oakview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dillon Stabner, Ryan Hallson, Ian Pischke, Darryl Budge, Wayne Budge and Rodney Budge. Honourary pallbearer for Elsie that day will be Allan Budge. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Ashern Lakeshore General Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba in Winnipeg. Thank you to the homecare coordinators and staff Patsy, Darlene, Gail and Randy. A very special thank you to Helen Webster for everything you have done, your support and comfort you gave our family will never be forgotten.
