ROBERT (BERT) BENJAMIN MARSHALL (published on May 23, 2009)

ROBERT (BERT) BENJAMIN MARSHALL August 28, 1924 - May 16, 2009 Bert Marshall passed away peacefully in the evening of May 16, 2009 surrounded by family. He was educated at Eldorado School, Miami Collegiate and Carman Collegiate in Manitoba. He served in the navy and was assigned to the HMCS Uganda during the Second World War. In 1948 he married his sweetheart Kathleen Helliwell. They were blessed with three children, Stan, Geraldine, and Colleen. In his lifetime Bert and Kay lived in Birtle, MB, Altamont, MB, The Pas, MB, Cudworth, SK, and most recently settled in Middle Lake, SK with many friends in each place. He will be dearly missed by son Stan (Anne) Marshall of Ottawa, daughter Geraldine (Terry) Bialkoski of The Pas, daughter Colleen (Allen) Baumann of St. Benedict, SK, granddaughters April (Troy) Carnegie of The Pas, Crystal (Craig) DeSpiegelaere of Alexander, MB, Pamela Baumann (Joey Adam) of Humboldt, SK, Kristen Marshall and Alexandra Marshall of Ottawa, grandson Willie Baumann (Deanne Almond) of St. Benedict, SK and great grandchildren Emma and Sam Carnegie of The Pas as well as step-granddaughters Natalie and Sophie Malek of Ottawa. Born August 28, 1924 on the family farm near Roseisle, MB, he was second youngest of five sons born to Maude and Robert (Bob) Marshall. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Henry, Stan, and Cecil. He is survived by one brother John (Helen) Marshall of Starbuck, MB and Sister in law Eva Marshall of Morden, MB. Bert was an avid gardener, nature lover, bird lover, wood worker, curler, cribbage player, and dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Forever the inventor he had an inquiring scientific mind and always looked for a better way to do things. His greatest joy was to be in the garden working with roses, fruit trees, and perennial flowers. A memorial service was held at Westminster United Church in Humboldt, SK on Wednesday May 20, 2009. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations to Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, S0K 2X0 would be appreciated by the family.
