BERNARD BABYNEC (published on June 09, 2009)

BERNARD BABYNEC August 1, 1920 - June 5, 2009 Bernard Babynec passed away peacefully on June 5, 2009 at Concordia Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by Helen, his loving wife of 66 years; sons, Ernie and Richard; beloved granddaughters, Anastasia (Jonathan Ziprick) and Alexandra; as well as great-granddaughter and joy, Gillian Ziprick. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter-in-law, Gillian; brothers-in-law Miron, Walter and Ernest Lewicki. Bernie was born in Winnipeg to Albert and Anna Babynec. He attended school in Winnipeg and served in the Canadian army during the Second World War. He was employed for 41 years by the Hudson's Bay Company, mainly in furniture sales, retiring in 1982. Bernie enjoyed his retirement and with Helen, spent winters in Texas and Arizona along with many great friends. He looked forward to coming home though, to be with his family and spend time tending to his yard, as gardening was a passion of his. Bernie was a longtime member of the Ukrainian Fraternal Society and served as director for many years. He was also a member of SOUP (Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers) and enjoyed reminiscing with his many friends at their monthly luncheons. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. A private interment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Bernie's memory to a charity of one's choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
