VERNA ISOBEL SCOTT (published on June 13, 2009)

VERNA ISOBEL SCOTT (nee JOHNSTON) July 23, 1922 - June 3, 2009 Peacefully and with the same dignity she lived her life, Verna passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009. In the hearts of her family and friends her warmth, kindness and loving ways will live on forever. Verna was born in Webb, Saskatchewan, July 23, 1922. In 1938 her family left the farm and moved to Lorette, Manitoba. At a young age Verna moved to Winnipeg to continue her education. In 1945 she met the love of her life, William Harold Scott. This young, handsome Navy boy swept her off her feet, and so began a wonderful journey that lasted 43 years. With Verna's knowledge in accounting and Harold's love of sales, they worked together to develop Superior Envelopes. In 1964 with the change of ownership at Superior Envelopes, Verna had the opportunity to stay at home and be a full time mom to her sons and daughter. Harold and Verna also had a love of boating. As members of the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club, many happy occasions, with family and friends, were celebrated aboard their vessel the Sea Swallow . She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Richard (Marian McGurran), her daughter Mylis (Gordon Dunn), and son Bradley; grandchildren Codi-Lee (Jonathan Page), Jeffrey and Jeremy Scott; Sarah and Catherine Dunn and Will Scott. In 2007 she celebrated the birth of her great-granddaughter, Addison Sophie Page. As well Verna is survived by her sister, Glenna Lavallee, sisters-in-law Mary and Joyce Johnston, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Mom's best friend, Mary Wiebe, for always being there for her. Mary, your kindness and friendship to our mom did not go unnoticed. Verna was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold Scott in 1989, her parent's William and Constance Johnston, brother's Barton, Robert and Donald. A celebration of Verna's life will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire a donation may be made in Mom's name to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or the charity of one's choice.
