ELEANOR KEHLER (published on June 13, 2009)

ELEANOR KEHLER Peacefully on June 10, 2009, with her husband at her side, we announce the passing of Eleanor Kehler (nee Pich), aged 66 at the Brummitt-Feasby House in Winnipeg, MB. Eleanor is survived by her loving husband Walter of 44 years; daughter Darcy (Randy), daughter Corrina (Stephen), son Randy (Vennessa), daughter Vivian (Jason) and son Frank (Crystal); grandchildren, Staci, Jeremy, Tamara, Tristan, Miranda, Mishayla, Portia, Pearce, Sydney, Porter and Brynn; siblings, Sylvia, Alvin, Hazel (Nick), Michael (Maxine), Judy (George), Jack, Orest (Val), along with numerous nieces nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike (1973) and Jennie (1998) Pich. Eleanor grew up on a farm in Rorketon, MB and later met Walter and married in 1965. They moved out to Eriksdale where she began her life as a farm wife and home-maker. She was a devoted mother, Baba, grandma and foster parent who offered her love, home and care. Eleanor loved all family functions and was happiest when she was in her kitchen preparing food for any event. Whether it was for a shower, wedding, family dinner or the hayfields, she loved making her favourite dishes, especially perogies, cabbage rolls and jiffy cinnamon buns. One of her passions was her garden. She enjoyed the harvests of her cucumbers, tomatoes and potatoes. Not only did she pickle many dills but she also loved picking berries and making jams and jellies. In the last few years she started growing more flowers and fewer vegetables as the family got smaller and had their own gardens. Eleanor was a very resourceful and creative woman and was always making crafts out of used items. She enjoyed sewing and made many doll clothes, pencil cases and blankets, not to mention all the mending of the farm clothes. Eleanor and her husband were dance enthusiasts and enjoyed going out most Saturday nights to many rural dinner and dance functions. They enjoyed themselves with many dance friends. They always enjoyed a good polka and Mom loved to listen to the Polka Party on the radio when they weren't able to attend dances. Eleanor enjoyed travelling and was able to see many great destinations with her sisters and daughters. She also loved to get away with her girlfriends to the casinos for a weekend jaunt. She will be remembered in our hearts as a loving, thoughtful, caring woman who always put others ahead of herself, always willing to lend a helping hand and never complained. Thank you to the staff at the Brummitt-Feasby House for their care of Mom during her last stages of living. Their care and attention to her were wonderful. Kind thanks to all the staff at the Eriksdale Hospital for their care of Mom while she was there. Also thanks to everyone else who visited and spent time with her, it meant so much to her and our family. A private family service has been held at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2109 Portage Ave., Room N108, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
