CLARA EMMA PLAETINCK (published on June 13, 2009)

CLARA EMMA PLAETINCK (nee VAN DE WEGHE) Peacefully, Clara Emma Plaetinck passed away at the Poseidon Care Center, 70 Poseidon Bay, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in her 95th year. Remaining to forever cherish Clara's memory are her children John (Joan), Paul (Diane), Marie Bray, George (Irene), Willy (Christine) and Eric (Candy); grandchildren Fred (Rosa) Bray, Rene Bray, Denise Bray, Jeannine Bray, Carolyn Burnett (Harvey), Robert (Lucy), Mark (Lenna), Andrew (Kristal), Craig (Nicole), Darren (Chantal), Kenneth (Samantha), Mikal, Kristina, Katherine, Cole, Clark and Brooke Plaetinck and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters in Belgium, Anna Braecke and Ida Van Wesemael. She was predeceased by her husband Renatus (Rene) Eduard Plaetinck on Sept.24, 1994; son-in-law Gilbert Bray; mother Maria Hortensia Van Peteghem; father Leopold Prosper Van de Weghe; sisters Lucie, Marie, and Augusta; brothers Josef and Alfons as well as her sisters and brothers-in-law. Mom was born in Kalken, Belgium on July 6, 1913. As a young woman she worked as a chef in France. In 1938 she returned to Kalken and married Rene on October 5, 1938. They farmed in Laarne, Belgium and in 1952 they immigrated to Manitoba, Canada with their six children. They lived in Stony Mountain, Swan Lake and finally settled in the Glenboro area in 1956 where they farmed until 1994 when Rene passed away. Later, she moved to Winnipeg. Mom was a very good cook and loved to knit and crochet. Mom enjoyed her many trips back to Belgium to visit her numerous relatives and friends. Religion and family were central in her life. Her unaltered faith and devotion to her church was her lifeline throughout her entire life. Prayers will be held on Monday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m., in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., also in the Church with Rev. Fr. Patrick A. Morand presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, 826 Crescent Drive. We give a special Thank You to the staff at Poseidon Care Center for their kindness and loving care they gave to our mother during her last six years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
