DOROTHY MARTHA GRANT (published on June 13, 2009)

DOROTHY MARTHA GRANT September 21, 1925 May 29, 2009 Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Dorothy passed away at the age of 83. Her long and brave battle with dementia is over and she is at peace. Dorothy will be missed forever by all of her children: her son Gordon (Susan) Still; her three daughters, Nancy (Bob) Sulkers, Joanne Vickery and Barbara (Doug) Catterall; as well as her grandchildren, Steven and Brent Vickery, Jim, David and Sean Catterall; Kimberly (Dave) Ericson; Katherine (Eric) McDowell; Rob (Shawna) Still and Jennifer (Dante) Wetherow, her adopted granddaughter. Her great-grandchildren did not get to know her but we will tell them all about her. Winnipeg was Dorothy's birthplace and home but she spent many happy years in Toronto, South River, Ontario and Green Valley, Arizona, with her beloved husband Donald Grant. Mom's passion was golf and in her retirement she and Don bought the golf course in South River and became an important part of that community. When they really retired they spent summers at their cottage on Eagle Lake and winters in Arizona where Mom was the driving force behind the annual Canadian Night . Mom was always full of energy. She made beautiful gardens wherever she lived, befriended animals (including a rather tame chipmunk and one snake), and sewed everything from drapes to party dresses for her girls. All this while raising four children and maintaining a full time job for most of her life. First, last and always she was our Mom and she is in all of us in one way or another. We love you Mom and you will continue to make us smile. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Golden Links Lodge who took such good care of her and all of us as we said goodbye. A celebration of her life will take place on Sunday, June 21 at 3:00 p.m. in Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 9Z9. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
