DAVID FERGUSON (published on June 13, 2009)

DAVID FERGUSON It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, David Ferguson, on June 7, 2009 at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre. David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pamela, son David, daughters Heather Clark (Peter), Jennifer Cavers (Doug), four grandchildren Brenden, Ashlyn, Shaelyn, Cameron, sisters-in-law Lois Ferguson and Sylvia Bowers (Jack), nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Edith, big brothers Theodore, Earle (Joanne) and his twin sister Florence. David was born at Elm Grove Post Office on January 7, 1925. He loved being outdoors. This started with him growing up on the family farm Wendover Farms in Dufresne to his time as a teacher in Moose Lake. It continued throughout the years and he would take his family for picnics regardless of the season. David was as comfortable in snowshoes or rubber boots as he was in his slippers. Growing up he enjoyed playing baseball and hockey and over his lifetime continued to enjoy both sports as a spectator. In the last few weeks of his life, he wanted to be in his room when the Stanley Cups were on T.V. David worked for Air Canada for 36 years. He was an active member of Gordon and then Gordon-King Memorial United Churches. He sang reluctant tenor (he was a natural baritone) in the choir and served on AOTS and council. David was a suburban MacGyver. Give him scrap materials and he could build toys for his grandchildren or new bookshelves for his home. He was a hobby-lapidarist and enjoyed doing his errands on foot, being recognizable around the neighbourhood for his trademark overalls and caps. David was also known for his kindness, willingness to assist, patience, and for his always pleasant, always polite nature. The family thanks the many friends who have called. We also thank Reverend Brent Denham for his comfort during this time. Funeral service will be held Monday, June 15, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with viewing held one half hour prior to service, at the Gordon-King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Ave. in Elmwood. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Ladies Lounge with interment following at Sunnyside Cemetery on Heatherdale Rd. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in David's name to the Alzheimer's Society or CancerCare Manitoba.
