MARIA LORENZA SPERANZA (published on June 15, 2009)

MARIA LORENZA SPERANZA (nee SILVARI) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend on June 11, 2009 at the age of 83 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Maria was predeceased by her parents Maria and Antonio Silvari and her brother Giacomo. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 56 years, Dante; her daughters, Gina and husband Pasquale Carnevale, Anita and husband Antonio Romolo; her son Roberto Speranza and wife Estrela; grandchildren, Luisa and Sabrina Carnevale, Pina and husband David Edwards, Felice and Dante Romolo, Michael and Selina Speranza. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister Domenica; brothers, Ignazio, Domenico, Antonio, Mario, their families and many other extended family members and friends. Maria was born in Dignano d'Istria on December 18, 1925. She came to Winnipeg with her family in 1951 where she met her husband Dante and raised three children. After working many years at Crescent Creamery, she led a fulfilling retired life that included hobbies such as cooking for her family, sewing, knitting, crocheting, word searches and looking after her beautiful flower garden, particularly her rose bushes. Maria loved spending summers at the cabin in Grand Beach over the years, and also enjoyed vacationing in Florida and Mexico with her husband. A very caring, nurturing and gentle woman, Maria always put others before herself. She was devoted to her family and her loving spirit will be missed by all. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Units 5 and 7 at Seven Oaks Hospital, HSC Emergency as well as the daily home care that Maria received. Thank you to the ladies and staff at the Luther Home Day Program - Maria so looked forward to her Mondays. Viewing will be held at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano Presiding. Entombment will take place immediately thereafter at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K9.
