EDWARD NEILSON (NEIL) ATKINSON (published on June 29, 2009)



EDWARD NEILSON (NEIL) ATKINSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Neil on Friday June 26, 2009, at the age of 81 years. Neil was born in Morden, Manitoba on July 3, 1927 to Williamina and Archibald. He was one of four children. He worked at a variety of jobs and stumbled upon and was proud to join the Royal Canadian Air Force where he worked until retirement. After retirement he worked at MacDon and Bristol. After joining the RCAF, Neil met, fell in love with and married Jennett (Jen) Jeffreys. They had three children. His favourite pastimes were playing darts, crib, shuffleboard, bowling and golf. He met his 2nd love, Betty Alward. They were inseparable for the past 16 years. He was an active member of the Manitoba Society for Seniors and spent many enjoyable years involved with and volunteering for the St. James Assiniboia Senior Centre on Duffield. Neil had a dynamic sense of humor, was kind, considerate and generous. Neil was predeceased by his wife, Jen; by his parents and by his sisters, Shirley, Mary and Marge. Neil is survived by his partner, Betty; his children, Ken (Brenda), Jeff (Shelley) and Wilma (Werner); grandchildren, Scott, Jenna, Paige, Nicholas and Nathan; sister-in-law, Wilma and numerous nieces, nephews, Betty's family and many friends. The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Health Sciences Centre who cared for him. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Army Navy Air Force Veterans in Canada, No. 283, 3584 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Neil's memory to a charity of your choice.
