AGNES MARGARET (TOMMIE) CHAMPION-TAYLOR (published on July 04, 2009)

AGNES MARGARET (TOMMIE) CHAMPION-TAYLOR Agnes was born Sunday, January 20, 1933 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She lived there with her family until 1938 when they moved to The Pas. Sometime during her childhood she earned the nickname Tommie and it stuck. Tommie was united in marriage to Bruce Wesley Champion-Taylor on August 2, 1954 in The Pas and lived there until her death. Tommie was always a career woman and had worked at a few jobs around The Pas until she settled into the role that most townspeople knew her for - she was the Town Clerk for 30 years until she retired in 1992. In addition to being deeply immersed in her career and her family, she always made time to be very involved with the community and especially the Christ Anglican Church where she held many volunteer positions including, Sunday School teacher, organist, choir member and envelope secretary for many years. Tommie was also always a big part of her children's endeavours, supporting their various clubs, events and sports teams. She was a talented piano player and teacher, and enjoyed art, painting, knitting and crocheting. Tommie was an avid reader and enjoyed her games of cribbage, Scrabble and challenging crosswords. Through her life Tommie also excelled academically. Highlights of her academic achievements included earning the highest marks in the province of Manitoba in high school Latin, as well as being class valedictorian and attaining the highest marks ever achieved in the province for the Municipal Administrators course which she completed in 1978. After a year-long battle with lung cancer, Tommie passed away quietly in the early morning of Friday, June 12, 2009 at St. Anthony's General Hospital, The Pas at the age of 76 years. Tommie is survived by her sons, Kerry (Kathy) Champion-Taylor, Brent (Annette) Champion-Taylor, Dave (Kim) Champion-Taylor; and daughter Cathy (Steve) Carnegie; grandchildren, Sean and Alicia Champion-Taylor; Stephanie, Trevor and Jessica Champion-Taylor; Ethan and Gibson Champion-Taylor; Troy (April) and Dana (Fern) Carnegie; great-grandchildren, Evan Duarte; Emma and Sam Carnegie; brother Wilfred E.H. (Rose) Cudmore; and sister Lorraine (Murray) Harvey, as well as many nieces and nephews. Tommie was predeceased by her husband Bruce Champion-Taylor, December 12, 1976; her son Wesley Champion-Taylor, May 8, 1972; and her parents, Wilfred E. Cudmore, June 25, 1991 and Catherine Cudmore, July 12, 1958. In keeping with Tommie's wishes, cremation took place and a Service of Remembrance was held Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Grahme Spear presiding. Music ministry was provided by Marianne Rowbotham. Thanksgiving for Tommie's Life was by Murray Harvey. A tribute was given by Blake Marks and a slideshow presentation by David Champion-Taylor. The recessional hymn was by Lili Hayden. As Tommie would have wished, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Christ Church Anglican Memorial Fund, Box 125, The Pas, Manitoba R9A 1K3. Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, in care of arrangements.
