ANTHONY (TONY) KOSTINUIK July 7, 1926 - June 30, 2009 Peacefully, on June 30, 2009 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, Anthony (Tony) Kostinuik, aged 82 years of East Selkirk, Manitoba. Tony is survived by his loving wife Nettie; daughter Darcie (Tom); son Terry (Sandy); grandchildren Breanne and Shayla; brother John; sister Eleanor, many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Tony was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Mary; brother Peter and sister Sophie. Born and raised in Walkleyburg, Manitoba, Tony was a very outgoing and social person who quickly made friends with people he would meet along his life's journey. He met his wife of 61 years who had lived just a few miles away and they were married in 1947. Many Sunday afternoon's were spent around the kitchen table with food, friends and family who would drop by just to say hello, enjoy a few good stories and the occasional glass of scotch. Dad took over the family farm, he loved farming and ran a successful mixed farming operation for over 61 years. Besides farming, Tony and his new wife opened the locally well known Kostinuik Barn Dances for 9 years beginning in 1949. Tony also liked to travel, and together with his wife, and later with their family, they visited many parts of Canada, the United States and Cuba. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Medicine Ward Nurses at the Selkirk and District General Hospital for their kindness and attention, making Tony's stay a comfortable one. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel., 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba. Interment to follow at the Brookside Cemetery in Walkleyburg, Manitoba. Pallbearers are Tom Watson, Gary Bediuk, Russell Hoydalo, David Hoydalo, Jerry Culleton, and Gordon Hryciw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony's memory to the Palliative Care Fund, c/o Selkirk and District General Hospital, P.O. Box 5000, Selkirk, MB, R1A2M2. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
