MARION O'CONNOR (published on July 04, 2009)

MARION O'CONNOR (MEAKIN) (nee Silver) Peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2009, Marion O'Connor passed away at the Grace Hospital with her family at her side. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Jack, two sons, Donald (Shirley) Meakin, Ken (Debbie) Meakin, two daughters, Marilyn (Derryl) Burdiak, Barbara (Dale) Tallas, four stepchildren, Susan (Don) Rischuk, Janet (Scott) Stanley, Nancy Wilson and Linda (Doug) Campbell, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Marion was predeceased by her parents, James and Elizabeth Silver, sister, Stella Faullus, brothers Stan Taylor, and Bill Hardy and grandson, Jason Burdiak and first husband, Walter Meakin. Mom was a life member of the Ladies' Auxiliary, ANAF #283. She was a waitress at the old Kirkfield Hotel, collected monies at the bingo at ANAF #283 for 25 years and worked at Golden West Centennial Lodge for 10 years retiring in 1985. Her family was her greatest joy. She loved a good joke, dancing and music always surrounded her life. She has fond memories of the 12 Texas winters spent in Pine to Palm with her husband, Jack. Later in life she became a huge fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Manitoba Moose. The family would like to thank the staff on 3 North and 3 South at Grace Hospital for their care and respect for mom during this past week and the staff at Oakview Place for their kindness and care they provided. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 7 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home at 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
