EUGENIE MARIE RASMUSSEN (published on July 04, 2009)

EUGENIE MARIE RASMUSSEN (nee LECLAIR) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Eugenie Marie Rasmussen on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 88. Her joyful smile and quick laugh will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Left to carry on her spirit is her sister, Sr. Therese Leclair, her children Agatha (Rudy), Gisele, Ken (Suzanne) and Lisa (Todd) as well as her seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She joins her dear husband Albert and her daughter Gloria as well as her many family that have passed before her. Mom had recently moved to the Shaftesbury Park Assisted Care Residence where she had made many dear friends. She was an active and vibrant participant in all the activities that she could at the facility. She was clear and alert right till the end and was interested in all that was going on in the world. She loved her visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had such pride in them. Their spirit and joyfulness always gave her such happiness and brought that beautiful smile to her face. In her life at Shaftesbury Park, she believed that all the pretense of earlier life was gone, that they were all equals at this stage of life and it was comforting to her to feel that. It has made us all realize the true importance of life on earth, that we should value our relationships, our deeds and how we treat each other. Our mother practiced these values everyday of her life. Thank you to the residents and staff at Shaftesbury Park Residence who were so welcoming to Mom when she moved in last fall and made her feel part of the family. She truly loved her time there. Also, thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Health Sciences Centre 3G for their loving care as well as the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital 5A for their care in her last days. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Vital Cemetery. A reception will be held in the church hall following interment. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba.
