IRENE JUNE THORARINSON (published on July 06, 2009)

IRENE JUNE THORARINSON June 18, 1935 - July 3, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, amma, sister, aunt, and friend, Irene Thorarinson, at age 74 years at Riverview Health Centre on July 3, 2009. Irene passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a brief struggle with cancer. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Kris (Buddy) Thorarinson, in 1995; son, Ken Thorarinson in 2006; mother and father, Asa and Kjartan Eggertson; and brother, Kjartan (Snooky) Eggertson. Irene will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son, Glenn, Meire Anne (daughter- in-law), Jessica (granddaughter) Thorarinson; her daughter, Lesley Thorarinson, Kristinn (son-in-law) and Alysha (granddaughter) Finnson; Sister, Lyla, Brian (brother in law), Rob (nephew) and Leanne (niece) Thorarinson; and Joe Johnson (uncle). She will also be missed by many other family members and friends. Irene was born and grew up on Hecla Island, MB with her mom, dad, sister and brother. After she completed school she moved to Winnipeg to attend Teachers College. After the loss of her brother, Irene took a teaching position on Hecla Island to be close to family. Her teaching career also included, Flin Flon, Gimli and then to Riverton where she met her husband and the love of her life, Buddy. Irene loved teaching and often reminisced fondly on some of the impactful relationships she had with her students. Irene and Buddy started their family where she worked full time being a loving mother to three children as well as, helping her husband in their family business. Aside from taking pleasure in being a devout mother and wife, Irene enjoyed working on the Lutheran Women's Church Group, singing in the church choir, and occasionally singing with her sister Lyla at different events. She was very musical, she loved playing the piano, accordion, singing and dancing. Irene also felt very blessed to have her mother, who she loved so dearly, live so close by. Family was very important to Irene her happiest memories would be a houseful of family. She loved visits from her sister and family coming to stay every weekend, the house full at Christmas with big dinners and visits by her mother many times a day. Her door was always open to everyone. After the tragic loss of her husband in 1995, Irene moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. She lived with her son Kenneth. Though the transition to Winnipeg was difficult, Irene made many friends, finding pleasure in visiting with people over coffee, going out dancing and spending time with her children. When her grandchildren came she was delighted to be around them. After the tragic loss of her son in 2006, Irene moved into the Waverley Retirement Home where she again was able to find comfort in friends and family. Even through all her loss and sadness her friends at the Waverley spoke of her loving and caring attitude toward them. The Family would like to thank the Staff at the Waverley, Riverview Health Centre, and Palliative Care for their kindness and the comfort they showed to our mother through her illness. Memorial Service for family and friends will be held at the Grant Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 1pm. Irene will be cremated and burial will be held at a later date. Flowers declined. Any donation that would like to be made is asked to be sent to World Vision, to help less fortunate children. Mom we know you are at Home and in Peace with Jesus and we are comforted to know you are reunited with your husband, son, mom and brother I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8) We Love You Mom!
