JEAN MARY DAVIES (published on July 07, 2009)

JEAN MARY DAVIES Peacefully at Misericordia Place Nursing Home in Winnipeg, on Friday, July 3, 2009, Jean passed away at the age of 94. She leaves behind to mourn her sons Ian (Laurel) and Bruce (Lila), granddaughter June, step granddaughter Victoria and her young son Justin. Jean was British born in Faversham, Kent and spent much of her youth in London where she attended art school after completing her basic education. During the Second World War she, her mother (Alice Davidson) and her brother (Ian Davidson) moved to Brighton to escape the blitz. There she met and married a Canadian, D. Lloyd Davies in 1942. Jean came to Canada as a war bride in 1945 and quickly began to make life-long friends within the forces community. Despite the hardships of absence when Lloyd was away at sea, she loved the life of a naval officer's wife. New postings every 18 months or so gave her the chance to see different parts of Canada and England and to make new friends. During their retirement years in Kingston, Ontario, Jean and Lloyd travelled much of the world. Jean's interest in people and travel lifted her above the daily grind and endeared her to many. Following the death of her husband she spent the last years of her life in Winnipeg, still making friends and managing the occasional trip to England to visit her ailing brother who predeceased her. Special thanks go to the staff at Misericordia Place for the care and affection they gave her. Jean will be missed by all. Jean's Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Jean's service. In lieu of sending flowers please make a donation in Jean's name to the charity of your choice.
