GERALD BRIAN RANVILLE Peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, surrounded by family, Gerald Brian Ranville of Portage la Prairie, beloved husband of Myrelene, father of Danielle and Sean, passed away at the age of 60 years. A Wake Service will be held in the home of Jean and Derrick, house 100M on the Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba, from the evening of July 8 to July 11, 2009. Funeral Service will be held at the Christ Church Anglican, Sagkeeng, Manitoba on July 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date. He was predeceased by his parents Emile and Mary Ranville, in-laws Donald and Daisy Henderson, son-in-law Allan McCutcheon, brother Gordon, sister Valerie Shuttleworth, brothers-in-law Darryl, Cyrus and Donald Henderson and sister-in-law Kathy McCreary. Brian's memory will forever be cherished by his wife Myrelene, son Sean (Maureen) of Millington, Maryland and daughter Danielle (Aaron Hunter) McCutcheon of Meaford, Ontario, two grandchildren Emma and Alexander, siblings Sterling (Yvette), Delphine, Donn (Sylvia), Randy (Donna), Wally (Donna), Errol (Marcie), Norman, Rene (Brenda) and Donna, brothers-in-laws Glen, David (Audrey), Gerry, Derrick, Donald (Andrea), and Michael, sisters-in-law Jean, Caren (Wayne), Deborah and Joan, his aunts Florence, Claudia, Dolores, Irene, Florence, Margaret and numerous nieces and nephews. Brian was born in Winnipeg and spent his childhood in Eddystone. His first job at Manitoba Highways Department ended when he began his public service career with the Government of Canada, Secretary of State. On returning to Manitoba he worked with the province of Manitoba Aboriginal Affairs. He ended his 30 years of public service with Brandon University. Brian earned his Masters Degree in Education from the Brandon University. Along with his wife Myrelene, he established the Henderson Institute Inc. to provide knowledge and education on Treaty 1 and the Boreal Forest. He is very proud of his daughter Danielle who is currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces at LFCATC Meaford, and of his son Sean who is studying Registered Nursing while employed as an EMT. He felt blessed by the births of his two grandchildren Emma Elizabeth and Alexander Gerald. Brian spent countless hours keeping a daily journal and was also a master photographer. The outpouring of support to his family by his many students, friends and communities speaks to the many lives he has influenced and touched. The family thanks the doctors and nurses at the Portage District General Hospital for their care.
