HENRY H. JANZEN 1914 - 2009 On Monday, July 6, 2009 at Salem Home in Winkler, MB Henry Janzen, aged 94 years, went to his eternal rest. Henry H. Janzen was born on September 29, 1914 in Muntau, Russia. His parents were Heinrich Johann and Helen (nee Loewen) Janzen. He came to Canada at the age of nine years in 1924. In 1937, Henry was baptized by Bishop David Schulz upon confession of his faith in Jesus Christ and was received into membership at the Bergthaler Church. In 1939, he married Eleonore Friesen. His career of 60 years as a Winkler business man started at the age of 15 years when he began working full time at the Nitikman and Sirluck Store, and later became part-owner of Sirluck and Janzen Ltd. Henry's life was characterized by an abiding faith in his God, a strong work ethic, devotion to his family, dedication to his church, a love of singing and music, commitment to the betterment of his community and perseverance in tough times. He was a man of integrity, solid principles and values. In 1985, Henry was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the community by being awarded Citizen of the Year . He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Elsie and Jake Wiebe, Ron and Marilyn Janzen, Elvera and Bill Elias, Len and Nettie Janzen as well as 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and other family members and friends. He was predeceased by both parents, his wife, Eleonore in 1990, his brother, Bill in 1983 and sister, Helen Riediger in 2005. Viewing will be (today) Thursday at Wiebe Funeral Home, 121 8th St. in Winkler from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Funeral service will be held on Friday July 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church 252 6th St. Interment to follow at Winkler Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Henry's memory to either MCC or Salem Foundation Inc. both available at the church.
