RITA LOADMAN (BORN RITA GUILAROFF) (published on July 13, 2009)



RITA LOADMAN (BORN RITA GUILAROFF) January 13, 1913 - July 9, 2009 Peacefully at the Grace Hospice, on July 9, 2009, Rita passed away in the 96th year. Predeceased by her husband, Arthur Earl Loadman in 1995, Rita is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and their children with whom she kept in close touch. Family was of the utmost importance to her. Rita married Earl in 1936 and came to Winnipeg from Montreal. As a legal secretary, Rita worked for E.K. Williams QC and TW Laidlaw QC from 1943 - 1947. She was secretary to Tom Kent editor of the Winnipeg Free Press 1956 - 1957. A talented pianist, she taught students for 15 years and played for some Royal Winnipeg Ballet classes where she worked with Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Farally. Rita had a keen interest in the arts and volunteered tirelessly for the Art Gallery, Theatre 77, the Dominion Drama Festival, and the Womens' Committee of the WSO, often rising to leadership positions. She was captain of the Girl Guides of Canada and served on the board of the White Cross Guild. In her 85th year Rita was president of the board of her condo, Halter East. Rita became secretary of three presidents of Unit 181 Manitoba Bridge League as well as treasurer. Throughout her many years, Rita maintained a sincere interest in people. She approached life with intelligence, humour, an open mind and a true zest for living. She will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB.
