PETER DEMURIAK (published on July 13, 2009)

PETER DEMURIAK It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Peter Demuriak on July 11, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Peter was born on December 3, 1932 to Metro and Sophie Demuriak in Gonor, MB and was the eldest of three children. He received his schooling in the area and upon graduating set his sights for the Sarnia/Windsor, Ontario area where he worked in the oil refineries. Deciding that this was not his forte, Peter headed to Atikokan, Ontario where he was employed as a heavy equipment Operator with Steep Rock Mines. It was in Atikokan where he met the love of his life Millie Stinson and where their first born, a daughter, Candace was born. In 1963 Peter and Millie returned to the Selkirk, MB area and greeted a second born, son Peter-Jay. At that time Peter became employed with the Manitoba Rolling Mill and was recruited from there to teach the Heavy Equipment Operators Course at Red River Community College. He then moved on to Crown Tire, Bapco Equipment and finally, MANDAC, where he retired after 14 years. Peter loved his family, loved to get together for holidays and loved to sit around the kitchen table and visit. You were always welcome at the Demuriak house. Dad was always there to lend a helping hand when PJ was building his houses, to either help with putting in sprinkler systems or building shelves in the pantry. He spent a week with Candi, building her gazebo, just like Dad's . He would make it all happen, just to see the smile on our faces. He will be greatly missed. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Metro and Sophie Demuriak, and brother Steve. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 53 years, Millie, daughter Candi (Rod), son PJ (Suzanne) and grandchildren, Madison and Riley along with his sister Olga and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Chapel, 200 Main Street, Selkirk, MB on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing one half hour prior. A private family interment to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Peter's memory. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Rock Fontaine toll free (866) 499-2601 or in Winnipeg at 223-2576.
