KATHLEEN LAURA CHALMERS (published on July 21, 2009)

KATHLEEN LAURA CHALMERS (nee CLARK) March 1, 1948 July 18, 2009 Peacefully on July 18, 2009 at the Virden Health Centre in Virden, MB. Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Bob Chalmers; daughter Laurie Chalmers and grandchildren Devonny, Noah and Joel of Nanaimo, BC; daughter Barbie Chalmers (Kevin Bill) of Inuvik, NT; brother Gerry (Linda) Clark, Flin Flon, MB; brother Randy (Debbie) Clark of Winnipeg; and nieces and nephew and their families. She is predeceased by her parents Harold and Maxine Clark. Kathy was born in Portage la Prairie, MB in 1948. She was raised in an RCMP family and as such spent her childhood living in many communities in southern Manitoba including Oak Point, Beausejour, Brandon and eventually Winnipeg where she met and married the boy next door. Bob and Kathy spent the first few years of their marriage living in Winnipeg and in Falcon Beach but settled in Snow Lake, MB to raise their two daughters. Kathy was a wonderful wife and mother. She made every holiday magical with her fabulous baking and knack for making everything beautiful. She was an accomplished athlete enjoying both running and skiing marathons. Kathy was also known for her artistic talents which made her an asset to all the various community organizations she volunteered for. She enjoyed creating and designing logos, posters and publications. Her logos can be seen across Canada and internationally. In 1993 Bob and Kathy moved to Virden, MB where Kathy continued to expand her talents by becoming involved with the Phoenix Players , a local theatre group. There in addition to acting in many productions, she designed play brochures and selected music. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Virden, MB. Heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Virden Health Centre for the wonderful care and support Kathy and her family received these last few weeks and to the Virden Palliative Care unit for providing such an excellent facility for our family to use during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy's name to St. Mary the Virgin, Anglican Church, Hall Building Fund (Box 15, Virden MB, R0M 2C0.) SHOULD YOU GO FIRST Should you go first and I remain to walk the road alone, I'll live in memory's garden dear, with happy days we've known. In spring I'll wait for roses red, when fades the lilac blue. In early fall, when brown leaves call, I'll catch a glimpse of you. Should you go first, and I remain, for battles to be fought, Each thing you've touched along the way will be a hallowed spot. I'll hear your voice, I'll see your smile, though blindly I may grope, The memory of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope. Should you go first and I remain, one thing I'd have you do, Walk slowly down that long, lone path, for soon I follow you. I'll want to know each step you take, That I may walk the same, For some day down that lonely road You'll hear me call your name. A.E. Rowswell
