GERHARD (GERRY) KOCH (published on July 22, 2009)

GERHARD (GERRY) KOCH The family of Gerry Koch is saddened to announce his peaceful passing on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Gerry is survived by his son, Chuck (Barb) of Medicine Hat, AB, his grandson Nathaneil, granddaughter Katherine, brother Ernie (June), sister-in-law Christa, nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents Julius and Albertine, brother Bruno, nephew Ralph, aunt and uncle Korman. Gerry was born on February 28, 1933 in Poprotz, Poland. Aunt and Uncle Korman sponsored Gerry and his two brothers, allowing them to immigrate to Canada. Gerry and Ernie arrived in Canada in 1950, with Bruno following shortly thereafter. His enjoyment of the outdoors lead to the discovery of a love for carpentry and a career as a site supervisor. He will be remembered as a robust man with a hearty laugh and a twinkle in his eye. His greatest joys were his grandchildren, Nate and Katie. The kids always were at home at Papa's, where they bounced on the furniture and walked on the kitchen counters in search of cookies. The love and joy they brought allowed him to return home after his third stroke. He will be lovingly remembered as a great father and papa and for a life well lived. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Gerry's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to attend a tea celebrating and remembering his life on Friday, July 24 at 12:30 p.m., Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715
