ETHEL KATHLEEN BROCKLEHURST (published on July 25, 2009)

ETHEL (EV, EFFY, GUNTZY) KATHLEEN BROCKLEHURST (nee THOMPSON) February 24, 1923 July 22, 2009 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ethel on July 22, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 86 years. Ethel was predeceased by her parents Duke and Dorothy Thompson, brother Donald, sister Dorothy Miller, sister-in-law Yvette and grandson Taylor. Ethel is survived by her husband Alec (Scotty) of 64 and one half years, her children Sandra (Gerry) Bibeau, Robert (Beverley) Brocklehurst, Dorothy (Chris) Prayag, Sharon Thomson; grandchildren Sean (Marina) Bibeau, Stephen (Noelle) Bibeau, Kyle Brocklehurst, Dana Brocklehurst, Evan Brocklehurst, Daniel Thomson, Coleton and Makayden Prayag; great-grandchildren, Carter, Payton, Ethan, Ryann and Jake. Her brother Doug Thompson, brother-in-law George Miller and good friend Beryl Lawson. Ethel's first job was in the war plant where they made airplane parts; she laughingly referred to herself as ROSIE THE RIVETER . Ethel worked at the Dutch Maid ice-cream store for a short time and after having raised her family she decided to take a part time job with Eaton's at Polo Park in Men's wear, where she received customer service awards for her service. Ethel was a member of the St. James Legion for 11 years. Ethel's two passions were singing and dancing. When the music started, you would always find Ethel and Alec to be one of the first couples on the dance floor and the last couple to leave. Ethel's beautiful singing voice was evident up until the time she could no longer find the strength to do so. Ethel had a great sense of humor, loved a good joke and had a quick wit about her. When dinners ended, you could see that little light in her eyes shine and you knew she was ready to have a game of show down with her grandchildren. Ethel was a very intuitive person, especially when her children called and asked for her advice. She always had Pearls of Wisdom. The family would like to thank the Doctors and especially the Nurses of GH 6-wing Health Sciences Centre for their care, compassion and willingness to go the extra mile for our Mother. A memorial service celebrating Ethel's life will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, ON 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. ALWAYS EVERYONE'S MOM Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
